Practice Advisory Service (Legal Profession)

What is the Practice Advisory Service?

Outsource is the sole provider of the Law Society’s subsidised Practice Advisory Service. This service consists of a 4 hour session on legal practice management covering a number of topics under the following headings:

  • Regulatory & Compliance
  • Charging for Services
  • Financial Management for Law Firms
  • Financing you firm
  • Your tax liabilities & providing for yourself

The service can be carried out on a one to one basis, however if the session is attended in a group of 3 or more staff members it will entitle the attendees to 4 hours CPD accreditation under the Management and Professional Skills by Group heading. Sole practitioners can qualify for the 4 CPD hours if the session is also attended by another appropriate individual (eg a legal executive, bookkeeper, secretary, etc).

The service is completely confidential with all matters discussed remaining between Outsource and the firm. Outsource’s reporting obligation to the Law Society is limited to acknowledging that the session has taken place.

Who can avail of the service?

The service is available to both existing firms and new firms (ie those practices that have commenced trading in the last 12 months), however as funding for the service is limited, applications will be approved by the Law Society on a first come first served basis.

How much does the service cost?

The cost of the practice advisory service is just €150 for new firms and €250 for existing firms. The balance of the cost of the session is borne by the Law Society.

How do I book?

In order to avail of this service you will need to contact the Law Society’s Practice Regulation Administrator to obtain approval for the session. Once this has been obtained you can contact us by e-mail or telephone to organise a date for the session that is mutually convenient
